Next Generation Exercise Program For Developing Motivation, Body and Mind Performance

The global society are currently facing the problem of lowering the vitality.
Decrease of motivation, which further causes lower learning ability and physical fitness in children has become our important concern.
To address this issue and to achieve healthy longevity society, it is important to find out which exercise condition is able to continue motivatively and it is necessary to develop the exercise program for the next generation.
Our research team had already developed variety of exercise condition, which is optimal for the animal models and for humans, and showed that low-intensity exercise and high-intensity intermittent exercise not only increase muscle endurance but also enhance hippocampus and prefrontal cortex related cognitive function, These research achievement has been attracting attention internationally.
Recently, by using these exercise models, we hypothesized that exercise should be associated with the regulation of dopaminergic (DA) system which related to motivation and cognition together and orexin (OX) system which related to sleep-awake rhythms.
To eaxmaine our new hypothesis, the various optimal exercise condition for further clinical application will be discovered. In the next five years, we will combine neuroscience, psychiatry and phychology to establish “Sports neuroscience”by examining the new mechanisms thoroughly. To reach this goal, not only healthy subjects but also several related disease animal models will be used to confirm the effectiveness of our exercise prescription.
Our final goal for the present study is to link human from the animal studies and to elucidate the optimal exercise conditions for maximizing motivation, cognition, body and mind performance and finally be able to develop practical exercise program in the future.

Exploration of antecedents of helplessness in the classroom:
Longitudinal investigation of the influence of home environment and peer-relationship.

The aim of this research project is to explore critical factors that influence students’ helplessness in the classroom. Through a large-scale longitudinal study, we will examine the effects of motivational factors such as goals, interest, and social relationships, as well as behavioral factors such as sleep, eating habbits, and daily physical activities. We hope our findings will provide practically important messages to students, teachers, parents, and school community as a whole.
